Upgrading from Student Affiliate to Member/Associate Member/International Affiliate

Have you recently graduated? Congratulations! Now its time to upgrade your SIOP membership. 

Student Affiliates are strongly encouraged to upgrade their SIOP membership from Student Affiliate status to Member or Associate Member soon after graduation. Graduates with a masters degree should apply for Associate Membership; those with doctoral degrees should apply for Member status. 

However, you may choose to renew your student status one additional time following graduation with your terminal degree (without a faculty signature) to make sure you continue to receive TIP and all other mailings. The membership process can take several months, because of the time it takes for APA or APS membership to come through. For APA, for example, one is elected for a particular future month, and only sent a dues invoice when that month comes. Then it can take up to a month after they receive payment for it to be posted and your membership to become confirmed. 

Student International Affiliates may choose either to apply for Associate/Member status (with the APA/APS requirement) or International Affiliate status (with no requirement to join APA or APS). 

Canadians who are members of CSIOP are also eligible to become Associate Members or Members, depending upon degree status. 

Note: If you renew as a Student Affiliate once more (after graduation) and also become a Member, Associate member, or International Affiliate during the same dues year, you will get credit for the dues paid. Therefore your professional membership dues would be reduced by the student dues paid.
